To apply a BFD map to your projects, construct an X/Y axis. On the vertical axis, write “Big.” On the horizontal axis, write “Fast & Doable.” Map your ideas accordingly. The newer the idea, the harder judging its size will be. Include your estimate of the idea’s “strategic value” in your placement: A small idea that opens a new market for later success is functionally huge. If two possibilities prove “equally doable,” the one you can finish faster gets a higher rating. People find it hard to let go of their ideas, but the map will help you release the weakest.
